The University of Tennessee
Health Science Center’s College of Pharmacy has received
a $4.5 million grant from The Plough Foundation to
establish the Plough Center for Sterile Drug Delivery
Systems.
The 5,800-square-foot facility will be built on the
sixth floor of the $65 million UT College of Pharmacy
Building under construction at the UT-Baptist Research
Park in the medical district. The college is scheduled
to open this fall.
The Plough Center will develop and manufacture drug
products to treat cancer, cardiovascular disease and
other infectious diseases. It will also serve as an
educational hub for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology
industries in Memphis.
In a statement, Scott McCormick, executive director
of the Plough Foundation, said the Plough Center will
have a significant impact on education, research and
health care in the Memphis community.
“It will also serve as a catalyst for entrepreneurial
endeavors in the local pharmaceutical industry,”
McCormick said.
The Plough Foundation funds nonprofits throughout
Memphis and Shelby County.
When completely built out, UT-Baptist Research Park
will have 1.4 million square feet of lab, research,
education and business space.
